I would highly recommend the Strathclyde MBA to anyone considering it. The programme is well designed, combining academic depth with practical learning...

What led you to choose to do an MBA and why Strathclyde?

Choosing to pursue an MBA was a deliberate and significant leap in my career. After working for nearly a decade and already completing one master’s degree, I felt the need to broaden my perspective, explore opportunities across global geographies, and strengthen my leadership and strategic capabilities. An MBA was the perfect fit at this stage of my professional journey, as it allowed me to consolidate my experience while expanding my business knowledge and preparing me for more senior, impactful roles.

Strathclyde stood out as the best choice for several reasons. The University of Strathclyde Business School has a strong reputation and a long-standing legacy, particularly for its MBA programme, which is recognised globally for its academic rigour and practical relevance. The way the course is designed, along with the flexibility it offers, made it especially appealing and well suited to professionals with prior work experience. Additionally, the scholarship support offered by Strathclyde played an important role in my decision, making the MBA excellent value for money while ensuring access to a world-class education.

In addition, the outreach of the programme and the diverse faculty, many of whom bring extensive global and industry experience, played a crucial role in my decision. Their insights added significant value to the learning experience and reinforced the real-world applicability of the programme.

Finally, choosing to study in Scotland, and specifically in Glasgow, was an added advantage. It is one of the most beautiful and welcoming places in the UK to study, offering a rich cultural experience alongside academic excellence. Altogether, Strathclyde provided the ideal environment for both personal and professional growth, making it the right choice for my MBA journey.

What are your thoughts/memories of the programme?

My memories of the MBA programme are extremely positive and enriching. One of the standout aspects for me was the quality of teaching and the overall approach to communication throughout the programme. The MBA coordinators and programme directors were exceptionally approachable, supportive, and transparent, which created a very welcoming and engaging learning environment.

The practical exposure offered through the programme was another major highlight. Site visits to organisations such as ACS and Arnold Clark were particularly memorable, as they provided valuable real-world insights and helped bridge the gap between theory and practice. These experiences brought classroom learning to life and added significant depth to the overall programme.
I also greatly valued the collaborative initiatives, especially the joint event involving the three leading business schools in Scotland; Strathclyde Business School, the University of Glasgow, and the University of Edinburgh. This was a unique opportunity to network, exchange perspectives, and learn alongside peers from other top institutions.

From an academic perspective, modules such as Global Marketing, Leadership, Economics, and Strategic Finance stood out as personal highlights. These subjects were especially impactful in shaping my strategic thinking and leadership mindset, and they continue to influence my professional approach today.

Overall, the programme offered a well-rounded and memorable experience that combined strong academic foundations, practical exposure, and a highly supportive community.

How has the MBA impacted on you since graduation?

The most impactful skills (in fact leadership qualities) and insights I gained from the MBA have been in self-awareness, leadership, and strategic thinking. The leadership and reflection-focused modules were particularly valuable, as they encouraged deep self-development and helped me better understand my strengths, leadership style, and areas for growth. These insights have directly translated into greater confidence, improved decision-making, and more effective people management in my career since graduating.

In addition, the programme strengthened my ability to think strategically and apply business concepts across functions, drawing on areas such as finance, economics, and marketing. Combined with the practical, real-world approach of the MBA, these skills have supported my continued career growth and prepared me to take on broader responsibilities with a more global and strategic mindset.

What would you say to someone considering doing the Strathclyde MBA?

I would highly recommend the Strathclyde MBA to anyone considering it. The programme is well designed, combining academic depth with practical learning, and the flexibility, along with available funding and scholarships, makes it excellent value for money.

My advice to prospective students is to actively engage with the programme and make full use of the support available. The department and recruiting team are very approachable and open to communication even before you enrol, which helps in gaining clear expectations and understanding what opportunities and support are available. Additionally, studying in Scotland, especially in Glasgow is a wonderful experience that adds great value to the overall MBA journey.

What was the best thing about Strathclyde?

The best thing about Strathclyde University is the overall ecosystem it offers, its people, staff, faculty, and strong alumni network, along with the excellent resources available. The university’s central location is ideal, supported by outstanding facilities, including one of the largest gyms and libraries in the UK. The campus is vibrant, fun, and engaging, offering much more than just academics and creating an environment that supports learning, interaction, and personal growth.

The alumni network is another major strength. Even in my current role, I have come across several Strathclyde and MBA alumni, which creates a strong sense of belonging to a respected institution. It is inspiring to see how these alumni are contributing meaningfully to the UK’s growth and development, further reinforcing the lasting value of the Strathclyde experience.
