Exec Part-time MBA; Graduated 2021

When I discovered that there was the option to study part-time while also continue working in my full-time job this seemed the logical choice for me
What led you to choose to do an MBA and why Strathclyde?
As a former undergraduate of the Strathclyde Business School (SBS) I have always had a long-standing affinity with the University. An MBA was always something I had thought I would like to do at some point in my life but didn't ever think I had the time or capacity to undertake something like this. When I discovered that there was the option to study part-time while also continue working in my full-time job this seemed the logical choice for me.
From the moment I attended an information session on the Strathclyde MBA I knew I was making the right choice, given the calibre of teaching programme, course content, and the value in connecting with like-minded people on the course (but from a diverse range of backgrounds).
What are your thoughts/memories of the programme?
My personal highlights of the Strathclyde MBA were of course the teaching and course content, which was invaluable in how my career has developed to date. However likely the biggest plus for me was the connection with fellow students, some of whom I would consider friends long after our studies have finished. Even though the final year of course was impacted by the pandemic, we still managed to stay connected and have a laugh along the way (even when the world was a slightly gloomier place).
How has the MBA impacted on you since graduation?
Taking a more analytical approach to a problem, being able to lead and work within diverse teams, and having a more rounded understanding of all facets of business including strategy, marketing, finance, and operations. This has allowed me to move from more business development/sales-based role into more strategic and leadership position in my career. I truly believe that without having done the MBA this would not have been possible or perhaps taken me a lot longer to make that jump.
What would you say to someone considering doing the Strathclyde MBA?
Do your research, it's a big investment both in time and financially. Think about what you want to get from the course but also keep an open mind as you will likely be surprised as what you get out of it.... that was certainly the case for me!
What was the best thing about Strathclyde?
The teaching staff, the programme support team (a huge thanks to Julie and Margaret), and of course your fellow students - you are all in it together and at times can feel like being part of a big family!
A truly life-changing experience, and grateful I had the opportunity to do it alongside some great people.
